Your Potential is Worthless

Having  potential that’s never activated is like having a paycheck you never deposit. Unleash your potential

Your potential, in and of itself, is absolutely worthless. What you do with it, however, may be positively invaluable.

Our potential remains just another word until we purposefully activate it. Unless we give it our full attention, there is no written guarantee that it will magically turn into something significant. Our potential doesn’t come with an owner’s manual; it’s up to each one of us to uniquely and consciously take the unfettered ingredients of our lives and create a masterpiece with it. Or not.

Deciding whether or not to activate our potential is one of the most life-altering choices we’ll ever make because, either way, there will be an impact.

NOTE: We don’t get to carry any unused portion of our potential over into the next lifetime, like we might roll over minutes on our cell phone plan. That’s a benevolent way of saying, “You’re running out of time—make a choice before there’s no choice to make.”

The great news is that our potential is both quantitatively and qualitatively unlimited. The other great news is that its expiration date doesn’t arrive until the day we die.  This means that during our lifetime it is never, ever too late to “turn our what if into what is.”

Masses of people lament about some unfulfilled dream, wish, hope, or plan that they’ve permanently warehoused because they felt they were too old to execute. They had missed the boat, they claimed.

So? Take the next one out!

My assumption is that you’re reading this blog because you’re not living as invincibly as you know you’re capable of, and your potential is staring you down. This scenario is making you miserable, isn’t it?

You are NOT alone!

There is nothing that will more quickly render your self-esteem worthless than making yourself a promise that you don’t keep—nothing. Remember all those goals you set that merely stayed goals; that were never actualized?

Conversely, when we accept the challenges we’ve laid before ourselves, when we keep our promises to ourselves, our self-esteem noticeably escalates as a reflection of our accomplishments.

How do we ignite our potential? How do we turn a temptation into something we can taste?

It starts with the conscious choice to do so. The moment we decide that we’re ready to take our foot off the brake and convert some of those raw goods into finished products, we send out a signal to the universe: “Red alert. Red alert. She’s about to make a move. Everyone—ready yourselves!”

Are you ready to cash your paycheck, as it were? Of course you are! Or you would never have read this far.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Figure out exactly where your potential is unrealized
  2. Identify the reasons and ‘excuses’ you use to stay where you are instead of going forward
  3. Calculate the ‘cost’ of standing still
  4. Develop a plan to reach your goal(s)
  5. Build in some weekly accountability
